2020 was the 152nd anniversary year of the Heritage Home for Women providing service to the community. In 2018, the theme for the year was “Reflections” and we celebrated the Home’s illustrious past, as well as it’s future.
The Home held several wonderful events in honor of their landmark anniversary. In February, they held a “Silver Tea” at the Home. The next Silver Tea will be held on the afternoon of Saturday, October 5, 2019 from 2-4 p.m. at the Home!
Then in March, they held an “Antiques Roadshow Appraisal Day” at the Home. This year, the Antiques Appraisal Roadshow will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2019 from 9-Noon at the Home.
In April, at the historic Stockade Inn, a fantastic reception and celebration entitled “Reflections – an Anniversary Celebration” was held.
The "A Stroll Back in Time" was held on Sunday, September 9th (the actual anniversary date), stepping off at 8:30 a.m.. starting from the present Heritage Home location, past Union College to the original Home site at 237 Green Street in the Stockade section of Schenectady. An easy 2 mile downhill stretch. In the spirit of the event several strollers wore their finest Victorian apparel.
A new addition to our 150th anniversary festivities,was the fabulous Broad Street Trio who performed at the Home on September 17th at 2 p.m. The trio is comprised of flutist Elizabeth Chinery, cellist Jay Shulman and pianist David Smith. All are truly gifted performers with extensive musical backgrounds and expertise. Ms. Chinery also performed on September 22 at the Rosewood Fanning Launch Recital at Union College. Rosewood Fanning, sponsor of our recital, is a local not for profit organization that produces Musical Competitions (www.rosewoodfanning.org). It was a pleasure to round out our special year and to have the Broad Street Trio come to play for our Residents and guests.
We thank everyone who supported the Home in our 150th Anniversary year, our Planning Committee, our sponsors, and each and every person who either participated in or financially helped help the Home in some way.
